Transfer the domain from UENI to GoDaddy

This guide shows exactly where to enter the UENI authorization key, how to avoid the “someone owns this domain” confusion, and what to do with nameservers after the transfer.

Check that your authorization code is still valid before you start. UENI authorization codes expire 72 hours after they are issued. If more than 72 hours have passed, reply to the existing UENI email thread and request a new EPP/authorization code. Ask UENI to confirm that your domain is also unlocked for transfer.

1. First, understand what is being transferred

A domain transfer moves the domain registration from one registrar to another. It does not automatically move the website, email inboxes, or hosting.

Why you may see “someone owns this domain” You will see this message if you use GoDaddy’s normal domain purchase search. That search is for buying unregistered domains, and daniellsautocare.com is already yours. Use GoDaddy’s dedicated Domain Transfer page instead—not the “buy a new domain” page.

Create or sign in to the correct GoDaddy account

Transfer the domain into your own GoDaddy account. Use an email address you control and expect to keep long term. Turn on two-step verification after signing in.

  • Use your legal or business contact details.
  • Keep the login and recovery information secure.
  • Do not transfer the domain into an employee’s or temporary contractor’s personal account.

Open GoDaddy’s dedicated Domain Transfer page

Go directly to GoDaddy’s domain-transfer tool. From GoDaddy’s menu, the wording may appear as Domains → Transfer Domain Names.

Enter daniellsautocare.com and check the unlock status

GoDaddy will check whether the domain is eligible and unlocked. A successful check normally displays a green confirmation.

If the status is not green, select Refresh Status. If it remains locked, stop and ask UENI to unlock it. You cannot unlock a UENI-managed domain from GoDaddy.

Paste the fresh UENI authorization code

This is where the “key” supplied by UENI is used. The same item may be called an EPP code, authorization code, auth code, transfer code, or transfer key.

  • Paste it exactly, including any letters, numbers, dots, dashes, or punctuation that are part of the code.
  • Make sure there is no accidental space before or after the code.
  • Do not send the code publicly or include it in screenshots.

Continue and purchase the transfer at GoDaddy

Once both the unlock status and authorization code show as accepted, choose Continue. GoDaddy may offer Domain Protection. You can select the protection option or choose No Thanks, then complete checkout.

The transfer does not start merely because the code was entered. It starts after the GoDaddy checkout is completed.

Watch both email inboxes and approve requests

GoDaddy and/or the current registrar may send confirmation messages to the domain registrant email or the GoDaddy account email. Open legitimate transfer messages and approve them promptly.

  • Check Inbox, Spam, Promotions, and Junk folders.
  • Confirm the domain shown in the email is exactly daniellsautocare.com.
  • Do not approve an unrelated ownership-change request.

Track the transfer in GoDaddy

Most standard domain transfers take approximately 5–7 days. In GoDaddy, open the Transfers page, choose Transfers In, and review the status.

If the transfer was purchased before the new code arrived

The code can usually be added or updated from GoDaddy’s transfer manager:

  1. Sign in to the GoDaddy Transfers page.
  2. Select Transfers In.
  3. Open the Finalize Transfer tab.
  4. Find daniellsautocare.com.
  5. Select the edit/pencil option under Auth Code.
  6. Enter the fresh UENI code and submit.

4. Nameservers, DNS, website, and email

Do not confuse the domain transfer with changing nameservers. They are separate actions.

Registrar transfer: changes who manages and renews the domain registration.
Nameserver change: changes where the internet looks for the domain’s DNS records, which control the website and email routing.
Do not change nameservers during the transfer unless the new hosting is ready. Changing nameservers too early can take the website or email offline. First record the current DNS and obtain the exact nameservers or DNS records from the new website/email provider.

What normally happens during a registrar transfer

The existing nameservers usually stay attached to the domain while it moves between registrars. However, UENI stated that the membership and website design features were canceled. Therefore, keeping UENI nameservers does not guarantee that the old UENI website will continue working.

After the transfer completes

  1. Open GoDaddy Domain Portfolio.
  2. Select daniellsautocare.com.
  3. Select DNS, then Nameservers.
  4. Choose the appropriate option and enter the nameservers supplied by the new hosting provider.
  5. Save the change and allow DNS propagation, which can take time across the internet.

5. Troubleshooting common problems

GoDaddy says the domain is taken or someone owns it

That is expected because the domain already exists and belongs to you. Do not try to buy it again. Open GoDaddy’s Domain Transfer page and enter the domain there.

GoDaddy says the authorization code is invalid

The code may have expired because UENI codes are valid for 72 hours. Request a fresh code from UENI, paste it exactly without leading or trailing spaces, and confirm that UENI has unlocked the domain.

GoDaddy says the domain is locked

Ask UENI to remove the registrar transfer lock. Then return to GoDaddy and use Refresh Status. GoDaddy cannot unlock a domain still managed by UENI.

GoDaddy shows a 60-day transfer restriction

A domain may be ineligible if it was newly registered, recently transferred, or placed under a 60-day contact-change lock. Ask UENI for the exact restriction and the date it ends.

The transfer is pending for several days

Standard transfers often take 5–7 days. Check GoDaddy Transfers, the registrant email inbox, and the UENI email thread for an approval request or action-needed message.

The website or email stops working

This is usually a hosting or DNS issue, not proof that the registrar transfer failed. Restore the correct nameservers and DNS records, or obtain the new records from the website/email provider.

The domain does not appear in GoDaddy after checkout

Open GoDaddy’s Transfers page rather than Domain Portfolio. The domain normally appears in the portfolio only after the transfer reaches Completed status.
